Reflexology
Reflexology is a protocol of manual techniques applied to specific reflex areas, predominantly on the feet. These techniques stimulate the complex neural pathways linking body systems, supporting the body’s efforts to function optimally. The effectiveness of reflexology is recognized worldwide by various national health institutions and the public as a distinct, complementary practice within the holistic health field.
How often should I receive Reflexology? Holistic therapies take time and patience. To maintain the benefits of reflexology, it is usually recommended that you receive two sessions in the first month and then once a month.
Can you tell what’s happening in my body by looking at or working on my feet? The short answer is NO. Reflexology is not a method of diagnosis. Some areas will be tender or sore, but it does not indicate that something is necessarily “wrong” in that corresponding area of the body. Although there may be a correlation, tenderness can be due to footwear or activities that strain the muscles and ligaments of the feet.
Reflexology During Pregnancy
Studies show that receiving regular Reflexology sessions throughout pregnancy can reduce the duration of labor and pain during childbirth. Reflexology can help with symptoms and side effects of pregnancy, such as digestive issues, insomnia, RLS, headache, sinus congestion, and sciatic pain, and can help relieve swelling in the ankles and feet. Eileen is certified in Pregnancy Reflexology and is well-versed in techniques that are safe from the early days of pregnancy through labor and delivery.
Reflexology for Labor Induction
The last few days or weeks of pregnancy can be stressful and uncomfortable. Reflexology can help bring the expectant mother some relief through deep relaxation. It is recommended that you begin receiving weekly Reflexology sessions from week 34 and continue up until delivery. 30-minute Reflexology sessions in combination with Prenatal Massage can help prepare and support your body for labor and delivery.
A special blend of essential oils will be applied to the feet from week 38 until delivery to help encourage and support the natural labor process.
Postnatal Reflexology:
The weeks and months after giving birth are crucial times in a woman's life. Postnatal Reflexology can help the new mother in the following ways: It reduces anxiety and tension, aids in balancing hormones and emotions, increases vitality and aids restful sleep, detoxifies, and helps the new mother gain a better sense of self, especially after a long labor or traumatic birth experience. It can also ease pain associated with breastfeeding, including tender/sore breasts, neck/shoulder pain, and arm/wrist pain.
DON'T FORGET YOUR PARTNER! Partners also experience an adjustment period postpartum. Reflexology and massage can help ease tension and relieve stress for the new parent.
